FL Studio is one of the most popular and debated DAWs out there. Bright interface, known for flexibility in workflow and a great deal of features along with integrated plugins—FL Studio offers it all. But within this large toolkit lie some shortcuts that will really speed up the music-making process.
1. AUTOMATION CLIP:
To swiftly save time, utilize this seldom-used trick: double-click the first automation clip and navigate to the setting. Click the small icon (or the drop-down menu for the new version of FL STUDIO), then simply copy and paste to other automation clips.
2. SHOW/HIDE MIXER EFFECTS:
Easily reveal all effects from a mixer by right-clicking on the effects slot. Conversely, hide them all with the same action.
3. SHOW INSTRUMENTS:
While editing notes in a pattern, effortlessly display the current instrument by right-clicking on its name at the top.
4. RESET ROUTING TO MASTER:
Resetting the routing number of a channel to default (the master) is a breeze. Hold Alt and left-click to execute.
5. SELECT/DESELECT 2 OR MORE CHANNELS:
To select two or more channels randomly, hold Shift and left-click them individually. Conversely, for consecutive selection or deselection, maintain Shift and left-click while dragging across channels.
6. RESET ANY KNOBS:
A quick reset of knobs is achieved by holding Alt and left-clicking. For third-party plugins, hold Ctrl and left-click.
7. HIDE ALL WINDOWS:
Hit the F12 keyboard to hide all windows. This offers a fresh perspective when things seem cluttered.
8. SOLO/UNSOLO:
Solo or unsolo everything in the playlist, channel rack, or mixer by holding Ctrl or Alt and left-clicking.
9. LOCK ITEMS:
Lock items in the playlist, channel rack, or mixer by holding Shift and left-clicking. This ensures they remain unaffected by solo actions and enables multi-selection.
10. ASSIGNED MIXER:
Double-click on the routing number in the channel rack to reveal its corresponding mixer channel.
11. GHOST NOTES:
Use ghost notes by pressing Alt + V while on a pattern to aid in identifying other channels' notes. Double right-click to reveal the real notes and their channel location.
12. PIANO ROLLS:
Jump between piano rolls seamlessly without opening the channel rack. Hold Shift + J for the next one, or Shift + H for the previous one.
13. RENAME ANYTHING:
Rename entities swiftly across FL Studio with Shift + left-click. Whether it’s in the mixer, pattern, channel rack, or playlist, this shortcut streamlines the process.
